The Biggest Debate No One is Talking About

You know we must discuss this…and yet no one is.

That bloody big brown furry elephant has been sitting in the room for some time now and we all keep walking up, toasting it with our brandy, and walking away before anyone questions us on it.

Sherlock Holmes Statue by Julian BremeYou know what I’m talking about…don’t deny it.

Eight months away, so it is not as though we can avoid discussing it for much longer…

December 18, 2015 will be the release of Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens…and not long after will be the release of Sherlock Season 4.

I simply don’t know which one I’m more excited to see.

As one who was in that perfect age group when Star Wars first hit the big screen in 1977, this should be easy…but it’s not.

Let’s be honest that watching a Star Destroyer plummet and crash is a better visual than Cumberbatch shooting at walls. That said, Star Wars has rarely succeeded with acting and story writing levels for long…Sherlock, on the other hand, has three seasons of brilliance.

Point being, you can discuss Avengers, Potter-spin-offs, or Superman making mincemeat of Batman until you’re blue in the face…these two, however, are the big bullies that will likely dry up cinema goers’ pocketbooks and television ratings like they were the two suns at noon on Tatooine.

One nod to the supers, however…were this a discussion regarding Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, I suspect I’d go into full convulsions trying to figure this out.

Truth be told, I’m more interest to see what they do with Star Wars – Rogue One. Something about going away from the main story arc is very intriguing…but that’s another year off, so it doesn’t count this time, but it will do battle with Simon Pegg’s Star Trek later in 2016.

That, however, is a debate for next year. I don’t think I could handle this all at once.

It is time that the supers, who have invaded our cinemas for more than ten years now, moved over. Time for a highly functioning sociopath and Force wielding Jedi Knights to take back your screens.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
